Filistin-İsrail Meselesine Filozofların Gözüyle Bakmak: Sarı Nusseibeh ve Carlos Fraenkel Örneği

Year 2024, Issue: 16, 1 - 40, 31.12.2024
https://doi.org/10.34230/fiad.1468623

Abstract

Philosophers' Perspectives on the Palestinian-Israeli Question: The Case of Sari Nusseibeh and Carlos Fraenkel

Year 2024, Issue: 16, 1 - 40, 31.12.2024
https://doi.org/10.34230/fiad.1468623

Abstract

This article examines the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the lens of philosophy, focusing on the perspectives of two philosophers, the Palestinian Sari Nusseibeh and the Israeli Carlos Fraenkel. Drawing from the field of international relations, the analysis explores how philosophical insights can contribute to the understanding and potential resolution of complex geopolitical disputes. While Sari Nusseibeh, a Palestinian philosopher, emphasizes human rights, justice and the ethical dimensions of conflict, Carlos Fraenkel approaches the issue more from the perspective of dialogue, nonviolence and cultural understanding. Through their philosophical frameworks, Nusseibeh and Fraenkel offer perspectives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict beyond the political and military dimension, shedding light on the underlying causes of the conflict from a different angle. Thus, they suggest paths to reconciliation and peace. By integrating philosophical inquiry into international relations discourse, this article highlights the potential of philosophers' approaches in addressing long-standing conflicts and promoting mutual understanding between different communities. First, Nusseibeh's philosophical approach to the Palestinian and Israeli conflict will be examined in the context of his works, and his philosophical views on human rights, justice and peace will be discussed. Criticisms and debates on Nusseibeh's philosophical solutions and approaches for the resolution of the conflict will be evaluated and then Fraenkel's philosophical approach to the conflict will be examined. Fraenkel's views on the importance of dialogue, nonviolent resistance and cultural understanding are identified and his philosophical solutions and approaches to conflict resolution are discussed.
The conclusion emphasizes the importance of philosophical perspectives on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict brought by thinkers such as Nusseibeh and Fraenkel who are not detached from realpolitik but rather live in it. Both philosophers analyze the deeper causes of the conflict and highlight their philosophical solutions for peace and reconciliation. Finally, the philosophical approaches are presented as a valuable resource to be discussed in the hope that they can contribute to progress towards a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and lead to a broader process of social reconciliation.
